Pipe Building Set from Picasso Tiles – A Review

One of our favorite ways to play is building. Any open-ended play that allows room for creativity and imagination is great for a child’s development. It encourages them to think and come up with ways to have fun. Building toys are perfect for this. We have a ridiculous number of blocks and magnet tiles that are played with all the time but didn’t have any pipe building sets.

I was looking for a way to build up our collection (no pun intended) while providing my son (D) with something a little different. Something that could develop a new skill. That’s why when PicassoTiles offered to gift me their pipe building set in exchange for my honest review. I jumped at the opportunity and I am so glad that I did!

At a Glance

The bright colors of this pipe building set immediately caught D’s attention. As soon as he saw it, he started asking to open it and play. The 136 piece pipe building set comes in a bucket for easy storage and includes wheels to build cars and whistles for playing around with sound. Of course, there are also the pipes. There are multiple different configurations of pipes for endless possibilities when building.

Play with Sound

The whistles were definitely a hit. D loved tormenting the dog with the sounds! He also figured out that when you put the whistles on different configurations and lengths of pipes, you produced different sounds. Such a fun little science experiment about sound waves!

Learning with Pipe Building

A pipe building set is a great way to build fine motor skills as D has to fit the end of one pipe into another. He practices his problem-solving skills as the pipes can only fit together in certain ways. If they don’t fit together, he has to turn it around and find the end that fits. This is a great way to learn through play.

He Loved it so Much!

D played with this pipe building set for over 2 hours! There are not many toys that keep his attention for that long. He didn’t want to eat dinner because all he wanted to do was play with the pipe building set and he continued to play with it all the way until bedtime, even trying to take it to bed! There was a bit of a tantrum when I told him he had to put it away, but I love seeing his joy when he finds a toy he really likes like this one so I didn’t care about the tantrum.

Durability

PicassoTiles pipe building set also stood up to his rough play. D likes to try to smash things after he builds them and the sturdy plastic didn’t break at all when he stomped on them. They really impressed me on how well they stood up to his abuse since many toys have been unable to do so.

Conclusion

I really liked this pipe building set. The open-ended play that is possible with it encourages the creativity and imagination that I love in my son. He can learn so much and develop his skills while truly having fun. That is the perfect combination in my mind! I’m looking forward to many more hours of entertainment building and being creative with D and the PicassoTiles pipe building set!
