The Ultimate Gift Guide for Him

Birthdays are a celebration of the person, their life, and their future. My husband’s birthday is coming up and like usual, I’ve procrastinated. Every year there are certain things that I always do for him. I always get a cake. I always cook a special dinner (usually steak). I always let him pick what he wants to do for the weekend. However, I rarely got him a present.

This includes affiliate links. That means that if you purchase through these links that Califf Creations will receive compensation that is of no extra cost to you. This helps cover the costs of Califf Creations.

That changed a couple years ago. We started realizing that we weren’t really recognizing our own birthdays very much and decided to change that. Now, every year, we exchange birthday presents. I don’t know about your spouse, but mine isn’t the easiest to buy for. There are certain go-to presents I could get, but I usually try and get something useful for his birthday while still getting something he will enjoy.

I’ve compiled a few ideas for birthday gifts for different types of guys that can be difficult to buy for.

For the sweet lover:

Satisfying a sweet tooth is always a must for a birthday. You could bake a cake, go to your local bakery and order one, or get this awesome Happy Birthday Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie! My husband loved the taste and it cuts up just like a cake so that everyone can enjoy a slice. Order this from GourmetGiftBaskets.com

For the sports lover:

My husband is a Yankee fan, and love pretty much anything Yankee related. Sweaters are a great way to give something that they can wear all the time and display their favorite team! Another great choice is a team jersey. If they don’t need or want more clothes, tickets to a game is a perfect gift as well.

For the book lover:

A couple years ago I got my husband a kindle and he loved it! It’s perfect for his long train commute and satisfies his lust for the written word while avoiding cluttering out shelves. The screen is really easy to read outdoors, which is great for us as we spend a lot of time outside. Another bonus if you are a Prime member is that there are certain books you can borrow for free. So it’s like having a little library you can carry around with you!

For the video game lover:

There is a lot of debate between video game nerds about which console is best. My husband doesn’t do a lot of online cooperative gameplay, so he likes the PlayStation 4. If you’re significant other likes to play online with others, they might prefer the Xbox One. If they already have the latest console, pay attention to new games coming out and see if there are any new versions of some of the games he already has. For instance, if he has the old MLB game, you could get the newest version for him!

For the one that works long days:

When my husband works overtime, he is out of the house from 5:00 am to 8:30 pm. Since he’s an electrician, he’s always on a job site and doesn’t have anywhere to plug in his phone. He always complains that his phone is dying or dead by the time he gets home. Or that he forgot to charge his kindle and couldn’t read on his train ride home. The perfect solution is a portable battery pack that recharges devices. This ensures that all their devices will last the whole day, and more!

For the tool lover:

There are so many great tools you can get! For taking care of the yard there is the Ryobi lithium battery outdoor yard tool collection. These all use the same battery so it’s easy to build on a collection without having to get multiple batteries, although the battery is sold separately. You can also use an extension cord, but having a battery makes it more portable. For more traditional items, there is the gator grip socket which self adjusts or this gyroscopic screwdriver from DeWALT that will make any job so much easier and quicker!

For the outdoor lover:

Any outdoorsy guy would love to have a survival kit. These have everything you need if you were to get stuck in the wilderness for longer than expected. It’s also just a great kit for backpacking. Another useful tool for outdoors (which doubles as a great gift for the tool lover) is a Leatherman. These are well made and house a bunch of different tools in a small package, making it easy to carry and incredibly useful. There are a lot of different models, including some with 20+ tools!

For the Lego lover:

There are tons of great Lego sets out there. You can find one to fit anyone’s passions. There are superhero sets, star wars sets, architecture, trains, and even a rocket! Lego lovers would be happy with any Lego set you decide to give them.

Free Gifts

If you don’t want to spend money on a gift there are tons of other things you can do as a nice present for your husband.

  • Make a coupon book for massages or other things that you don’t give often. I made one once that included my consent to watching a horror movie since I’m not a fan of them!
  • Send the kids to a sleepover and have a date night in. Cook a nice dinner, dress up nice and eat by candlelight. Then, snuggle up on the couch and watch a movie.
  • Make his favorite sandwich, get his favorite wine (or beer if he’s like my husband), pack up a basket, grab a basket and have a picnic in the park.
  • Dress up sexy and let him take a few photos. This is great if you’re looking to spice things up a little as well!
  • Tell him to go out and have a guy night with his friends. You might just want to keep the keys!

There are tons of great ways to celebrate a birthday either together, or by letting him go out guilt free on his own. It’s all about making him feel special and appreciated. This year is the first year that I’m truly a stay at home mom without plans to return to work, so I want my husband to know that I appreciate all the long hours and hard work he puts in to make this possible. To me, that is the most important part of celebrating a spouse’s birthday, let them know you love and appreciate everything they do.
