Peeps Rice Krispie Treats

This is a fun dessert to make with your kids. It’s super easy and makes a colorful dessert that is sure to please! I mean, who doesn’t like Rice Krispie Treats? Even me, someone who doesn’t eat much sugar at all, likes them! My son was so proud to help me with these in the kitchen and loved watching the colors mix in.

You make these just like you would regular Rice Krispies, with only a few differences. Mainly, you get Peeps instead of marshmallows. I decided to get three different colors to make a marbled look to the final product. This does make it a little more difficult, so you if want to make it easier, just get one color and follow the directions on the box, substituting the Peeps for the regular marshmallows.

Making it with three colors, you have to do everything in three stages to keep the colors from melting together. To do this, you divide the butter and cereal into thirds and mix each color separately. Then, you have to try and keep it warm so that you can mix them together. Otherwise, it becomes very hard in the end.

Melt one-third the butter in a saucepan. Then mix in one package of peeps. I did this part myself as this includes heat and I didn’t want my son to burn himself!

Then, I let him climb a step stool so he could reach the counter and pour one-third of the cereal into the pan. It was a little messy, but it’s easy to clean up. I think I had to add quite a bit more cereal after he finished since he poured almost half on the floor before I started helping. My dog had a field day with it!

He loved mixing it together and watching everything stuck together. It wasn’t the easiest thing for him, but with a little help, he got the job done. There was a huge smile on his face the whole time, evidenced by the dimples that always give him away!

Then, we repeated this process with the other two colors. As we mixed each color together, I set it aside on a piece of parchment paper. You need to try and keep it warm or else it will get really hard to mix all the colors together in the end.

Once they were all mixed, I twisted the three colors together to create a marbled look. Then I put it into a greased 9×11 pan and, with a piece of parchment paper on top, pressed it down flat into the pan. The final look is a marbled Easter colored treat for everyone to enjoy! My son was so happy to see what he created. Sometimes you have to allow a little junk food in the name of having fun!
