10+ Easter Activities to do with Kids

Easter is a great time to have some fun with your kids. I remember coloring eggs and doing Easter egg hunts. It was always a great time. Now that I have a kid of my own, I’m always looking for new activities to do with him. Whenever there is a holiday, it feels like the perfect excuse to try something new!I’ve spent some time compiling some Easter themed activities that are perfect for little ones. There is a little something for everyone, some cooking, painting, stamping, science, and some non-crafting ways to learn as well. You’ll find five things to do in the kitchen, five things to do out of the kitchen, and a little bonus of non-crafting learning activities at the end! I hope you enjoy.

In the Kitchen

1. Peeps Rice Krispies
This is my own recipe that is about as simple as they come. You simply make Rice Krispies following the directions on the box, but instead of using regular marshmallows, use Peeps! This makes for fun Easter colored treats. My son loves mixing this and watching the colors of the peeps melt and spread. You can read more about making this with my son here.

2. Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats
Donna Audet
Another fun Rice Krispie variation. These are super cute and kids will love dipping them into fun colors and then dumping sprinkles on. Once they are done, they make such a cute treat. If you are having people over, these are a great dessert to offer and your child can brag about how they made them!

3. Bunny Race Car Treats

These are just adorable and another perfect treat to put out at a party. Your kids will love playing with them just as much as they love making them. It’s such a great way to combine food and imaginative play. And they are so easy to make, requiring no actual cooking at all! Just assemble and enjoy.

4. Colorful, Layered Easter Cake
Little Mama Jama

This is a really fun way to make a simple cake look a lot fancier! Plus it looks awesome. Kids will love mixing the colors into the batter and then helping you assemble and decorate the cake. I love the peeps on top as a perfect finishing touch. This is a great way to dress up a boxed cake if you don’t want to make one from scratch. With this look, none would even guess!

5. Butterfly Chocolate Chip Cookies
A Hundred Affections

You can either use pre-made cookie dough or have your kids help mix up your own and then have fun while decorating little butterflies! I love this idea. Decorating cookies with frosting is a lot of fun for little ones (especially once they get to lick their fingers). This is a great way to bring a little Easter and spring into the kitchen while making cute and delicious cookies!

Bonus: Easter Dessert Tray
Baby Castan on Board

If you want to make an easy and relatively healthy dessert tray with your toddler, this is a great option. With dipped strawberries and oatmeal cookies, it’s a great combination for a dessert tray. Toddlers will have so much fun helping with this one!

Out of the Kitchen

1. Easter Egg Potato Stamps
This Mom Life by Rosie

I love any art project that is super creative and outside the box. Making Easter egg stamps out of potatoes definitely falls into that category! What a wonderful idea to combine painting and stamping into one fun art project. This may be a little messy, especially for younger toddlers, but in my opinion that just makes it more fun. It’s so easy to adjust to different skill levels and the resulting project is really cute.

2. Make an Easter Egg Rocket
Team Cartwright

With just a toilet paper tube, a plastic Easter egg, and some Alka-Seltzer, you can make a simple rocket that your kids will love! This displays some simple science as well so is a great learning activity. They will love decorating their own little rocket however they want. Then, it’s blast off!

3. Fork Painting
Fab Working Mom

This is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Painting with a fork! The effect is really cool and it’s super easy for toddlers and preschoolers. You can cut out the shape of an egg and then dip the fork into some paint and decorate your egg. It’s a great way to get creative and practice some fine motor skills by handling the fork.

4. Chalk Paint Eggs
The Mom of the Year

If you have some old plastic eggs sitting around that you are no longer using or that are maybe a little too beat up to be a part of this year’s Easter egg hunt, don’t throw them out! Instead, you can transform them into these cute pastel eggs that you can use for decoration, or as part of another craft. It’s as easy as painting over the plastic eggs, so kids will love helping you. Then go outside and collect some sticks, make a little nest and put them inside! Or if you are more ambitious, make a cute wreath for your front door.

5. Fabric Scrap Easter Eggs
Sew Bright Creations
This is a fun alternative to the traditional egg coloring activities. Instead of dying, you can cut out scrap fabric and make unique designs on your eggs. This is for slightly older kids as they would need to be able to use scissors to cut out the fabric. If you want to try this with toddlers, you could just cut the fabric out for them and the rest they can do on their own. It’s a great way to add some variety to your egg decorating!

Non-Crafting Learning Activities

Parenting Expert to Mom has some great ideas that don’t include paint or glue. You can teach communication skills through an Easter song, or cognitive skills by reading and exploring Easter books, or just get silly practicing motor skills by hopping like a bunny!
Check out more non-crafting learning opportunities here.
