Fall-Themed Books for Kids

Fall is a magical time and the leaves are something out of a storybook. In fact, there are so many great books about fall that I thought I would share a few of my favorites with you. These fall-themed books have beautiful pictures and great stories for young kids. If you are like me, you dream of a rotating bookshelf with books for every season. I got your fall-themed books covered!

I absolutely love fall. It is a great season to take story time outside. Reading a fall-themed nature book after playing in the leaves brings the season alive for kids and you get to watch the wonder grow! Here are a few of my favorite fall-themed books about nature for kids.

You can welcome autumn with any of these fall-themed books but I love Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn by Kenard Pak since it follows a young girl having a series of conversations with animals, plants, and even a gust of wind to say goodbye to summer welcome the change of seasons.

Educational Fall-Themed Books

Autumn Leaves by: Ken Robbins

I know you are here for picture book and fall-themed books for story time, but first, I have to mention this amazing nature book. It includes beautiful color photos of leaves from North American trees and teaches kids to examine fall leaves while learning why they change color. The information is straight forward and it is a great book to take on nature walks to find fall leaves.

 

 

 

Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf by: Lois Ehlert

A beautiful introduction to the life of a tree using watercolor illustrations. This book includes information on photosynthesis and why leaves change color, how roots absorb nutrients, how sap circulates and more.

 

 

 

 

 

Why Do Leaves Change Color? by: Betsy Maestro

Another book about the “why” behind fall. This is a great book to inspire you to get outside during fall since it comes with simple activities to do as well as diagrams to explain the changes kids observe in nature.

 

 

 

 

Counting on Fall (Math in Nature) by: Lizann Flatt

From simple counting to slightly more advanced math concepts, this is a cute book featuring beautiful layered paper illustrations. It focuses more on the animals in fall and introduces math concepts in a fun way.

A classic with gorgeous nature photography throughout. This thought provoking story uses the beauty of fall to help both children and adults learn about life and death.
