Red White and Blue Yogurt Bark

I love cooking with kids and how much my son enjoys helping me in the kitchen. There are lots of ways he helps, pouring, mixing, and measuring being just a few. He is always so proud to show off what he makes with me and it’s always a great learning experience for him. One of our favorites for the summer is red, white, and blue yogurt bark!

The yogurt bark is frozen, which is what makes it such a great summer treat! It is super easy to a toddler to make, tastes great, and can even be made festive for the Fourth of July by using strawberries and blueberries to make it red, white and blue. And since it is just yogurt and fruit, it is super healthy!

Preparation for the Yogurt Bark

Whenever I cook with my son, preparation is key! It goes much smoother if everything is laid out and ready. That way he can come in and just have fun making yogurt bark (or whatever else we might make) instead of waiting for me to finish cutting something. This decreases frustration and increases the amount of fun we can have!

Prepared to make yogurt bark

Prep for the yogurt bark is simple. Take a baking sheet that has edges all around (like this one) and line it with parchment paper. Get a large spoon and whatever yogurt you want to use. I like using Greek yogurt for a little protein boost. Plain will have less sugar, but vanilla does taste better! Lastly, cut up whatever fruit you want to put into the yogurt bark. For my red, white, and blue Fourth of July yogurt bark, I use strawberries and blueberries. If you want to add more variety, you can add any fruit cut into bite sizes.

Let’s Get Started!!

Once everything is gathered for the yogurt bark, you can start! First, spread an even layer of yogurt onto the lined baking sheet. This part is so much fun for kids. My son loved scooping the yogurt out and spreading it around the baking sheet using the back of the spoon. He took a few taste tests!

Next, he dropped the fruit into the yogurt. We had fun counting the strawberries and blueberries as he placed them all over the yogurt. There was a lot more sampling of yogurt and fruit at this stage.

Finally, once all the fruit is placed, we put the baking sheet into the freezer. It’s important to make sure it lays flat so the yogurt doesn’t run to one side. Once it solidifies (1-2 hours) the parchment paper will peel away easily. Then, my son got to smash and break the yogurt bark up into manageable pieces. It’s a little boy’s dream to be destructive like this! I bag the pieces up and keep them in the freezer for a healthy, tasty yogurt bark for the Fourth of July or simply to cool off on a hot day!
