A Love that Lasts a Lifetime
Honestly, I could be talking about dogs or coffee, but in this case, I’m talking about both! I’ve had a dog since I was born. When my parents were engaged, they went shopping for a wedding ring and came home with a dog from the Humane Society. Nikki was my first dog. I grew up loving them.
Today, Laney is the only other girl in my family.
She was abandoned at a veterinary hospital I used to work at and we ended up bringing her home. Well, the true story was that I called my husband on my way home from work with her in the car saying we were going to keep her for a “trial run”. He knew immediately that what I meant was that we now had a dog. She was malnourished and not in the best shape but has grown into a beautiful girl and is a member of our family. Just like me, my boys have had a dog since they were born.
My love for coffee started later in life.
During high school, I worked at a small coffee shop in Sausalito, California. There, I learned about the subtleties in coffee. I learned to appreciate the full flavor and rich taste of a good cup of coffee. Ever since then, I’m always looking for new, delicious coffee blends to try.

About Hugo Coffee
I tried their Bonafido Dark Roast and it was delicious. I drink my coffee black and enjoyed the bold rich flavor of this roast. It is so smooth and I have to force myself to stop or I’ll drink a whole pot to myself!
All their coffees include a nod to their love for dogs. Like the Bonafido that I described above or the Black Paw French Roast.
They also offer:
- Roll Over Breakfast Blend
- Howler Espresso
- New Trick Light Roast
- Downward Dog Decaf
- Dog Daze Cold Brew
- New Trick Cold Brew (this is a new one)

We’ve all heard the various terms that describe coffee: fair trade, non-GMO, organic, sustainable, ethical, small-batch, single-origin, etc. The list goes on with all the different ways we describe our coffee. One thing that I love about Hugo Coffee is that they outline exactly what they think matters.
Small Batch
Did you know that the altitude beans are grown at will change the flavor of coffee? I didn’t! The head roaster at Hugo Coffee has a tightly controlled process of selecting small batches and creating blends. This creates a more consistent flavor to the beans that stands out.
Sustainability
Hugo Coffee is located in Park City, Utah where they have pledged to run 100% renewable energy by 2032. At Hugo, they have a special roaster that uses less energy than traditional coffee roasters by heating with a combination of natural gas and infrared heat. They also use a cool machine called an oxidizer that processes the smoke created while roasting and leaves the air cleaner. They are actively working for a healthier planet and taking real actionable steps to better living.
Fair Trade Coffee
Hugo Coffee works with both small family farms and cooperatives. They take the time to get to know who they are working with. At a small farm, they know who is managing the farm and who is working it. With cooperatives, the people at Hugo Coffee learn about them and ensure that they provide schooling, healthcare, and fair labor practices for all family members there. This was important to me as I wouldn’t want to support a company that does anything less than this.
What does this all have to do with dogs?
The simple answer is that the people behind Hugo Coffee love coffee and dogs, and not necessarily in that order (just like me!). They donate 10% of profits to dog rescue organizations like Nuzzles & Co and have provided support to adoption and education events. Buying a bag of Hugo Coffee provides meals, vaccines, spay/neuter operations, and more for dogs in need.
The employees at Hugo Coffee are dedicated to making great-tasting coffee and using those profits to help their other love, dogs. They are a company that is working to do more. A company with a cause and one that is worth supporting. If I’m ever in Park City, you can be sure that Laney and I will visit 1794 Olympic Parkway to visit the flagship cafe, Hugo Coffee Shop because they have a repeat customer in me!
