Fall Craft to do with your Toddler
Autumn is for crafting together. As the temperature cools, rainy days become frequent and we spend more time indoors. Crafting is a great way to spend some time together and keep kids occupied when inside. It is also great for practicing fine motor skills and of course, getting creative! I love doing nature-themed crafts with my toddler. This is a great fall craft I did with my son.

Toddler or Preschooler
Okay, first, I have to admit to myself that my son is a preschooler now! My oldest started preschool this week and is doing an amazing job. He had even been to daycare before and I was nervous for him, but he really enjoyed himself. I couldn’t be prouder of him. He loves school and I know he will learn and thrive in the nature-based program there.
My Mixed Emotions
It is amazing how many opposing feelings I had as he started.
Excited but Nervous
Proud but sad (he’s growing up so fast!)
Happy for both our independence but missing him at the same time.
Out of all these emotions, pride wins out. I’m proud of how ready he was. Proud of his eagerness to learn and to socialize. Most of all, I’m proud of his independence. My baby is growing into an amazing little boy
Back to the Fall Craft
This craft is fun, simple, and easy to do together. The supplies are cheap and it requires almost NO PREP! That is the perfect recipe for a craft in my opinion.
What you Need:
- Construction Paper (Blue and Brown)
- Fall-Colored Tissue Paper
- Green Crinkle-Paper Shreds
- Glue Stick
- School Glue
- Child Scissors
Make the Fall Craft:
To start, I cut out a “trunk” from the brown construction paper. Then, my son cut out strips of various lengths for branches. If your child is capable they can do part or all the cutting to practice their scissor skills using child scissors.
Then, using the glue stick, my son glued all the brown pieces of construction paper onto the blue sheet to form a tree. I like using purple glue sticks. This way, he can see where he has applied the glue and likes to say he has to “make it purple”.
Once the tree is glued down, it’s time to use the school glue and add grass. My son squeezed the glue onto the bottom of the blue construction paper around the base of the tree. Then, he struck the strips of green crinkle cut paper to it to make grass.
Next, it was time to add leaves. After putting more dots of school glue on the branches, we tore up the fall colored tissue paper into small pieces and crumpled them into little balls (practicing those fine motor skills!) and put them onto the glue spots for leaves.

Fall Craft End Result
My son had so much fun with the tissue paper! Once he had the branches covered and was done, he was really proud of himself. He couldn’t wait for daddy to come home so he could show off his fall craft.
This fall craft is one of our favorites. The best part is that you can change it for all the seasons, providing another learning activity.
Winter Craft
Glue cotton balls to represent snow and leave branches bare. Maybe make a cotton ball snowman.
Spring Craft
Use spring colored tissue paper to represent flowers in the tree.
Summer Craft
Use different colored green tissue paper to make leaves.
Isn’t that a fun way to craft, practice some fine motor skill, and learn about the seasons? You can start with the fall craft and work your way through the rest as the year progresses!

Fall is such a fun time to create memories through art. The leaves that fall down themselves are so festive.
Kat
I totally agree. I’m looking forward to more crafting during fall.
