Califf Life Creations

Welcome

Califf Life Creations is designed to help families live their best lives and spend more time outside. I am the mother of two boys and we are always adventuring. We love to hike anywhere we can and explore the area of New York where we live. These hikes provide great opportunities to learn through, from, and with nature. I love teaching my boys all about the world we live in. After the birth of my second son, I suffered from postpartum depression. It was through nature that I have been reconnecting with myself and climbing out of the hole that I was living in. Join us on our journey toward mental and physical health in the great outdoors! Check us out on Instagram too.

    • Hemlock Falls - hiking with kids

At the end of 2021, the kids and I went hiking to Hemlock Falls which is located in the South Mountain Reservation of Northern New Jersey. We’ve been on a real waterfall kick lately. The kids keep asking for them and having the motivation of finding a waterfall has made hiking with kids easier lately.

    • A Letter to Toddler Moms

A letter to my fellow toddler moms , I get it. One minute they love you, the next the world is ending and nothing will fix it. You worked hard all day on a great dinner that was tossed on the ground because you forgot to serve it on theĀ orangeĀ plate. How dare you! Toddler moms

    • Garden of the Gods : Colorado

Our RV road trip journey continued to one last big stop, visiting my childhood friend outside Denver, Colorado. There are so many parks and attractions in this area of Colorado that narrowing it down to only one was tough. Our long list was slowly whittled down to one park, about an hour away from Denver:

    • Two Days in the Black Hills, South Dakota

The Black Hills is a fascinating area full of incredible landscapes and wildlife. We only had a couple of days to explore this area during our RV trip, so we had to limit what attractions we could visit. Our entire vacation was originally planned because of how much our boys like statues. We had to

    • Exploring Badlands National Park with Kids

Badlands National Park deserves a spot on your bucket list. An area that transformed from an ancient sea bed to raised prairie and then slowly formed by erosion. It is a harsh environment that gets baked in the summer sun and then frozen in the winter. Exploring the Badlands National Park with kids is a

    • Hiking with Kids : Badlands National Park

If you love hiking, you will love hiking the Badlands. If you don’t love hiking, you will love hiking the Badlands. It is impossible not to marvel at the expansive views and rock formations that make up Badlands National Park. The best way to see the landscape is to go out and explore it. It

    • Boondocking at "The Wall" overlooking the Badlands

It was our first experience with free dispersed camping (aka “boondocking”) and it was incredible! I had read about this spot in South Dakota where you could camp overlooking the Badlands. The views were incredible and the sunrise looked like it would be stunning. We knew it would be a long haul from Minnesota to

    • The Importance of Intergenerational Interaction

Tt’s amazing how much kids connect with Grandparents. There is an instant bond that seems effortless. One of my favorite parts about watching my children interact with my parents is that I get to remember all the best parts of my own childhood with them. I didn’t grow up knowing Grandparents and so it was

    • Entertaining Kids in an RV - Cover Image

My family recently completed our first RV trip together and it was absolutely amazing. We drove from New York to Minnesota, then to South Dakota and Colorado before turning back toward New York. It was 4500 miles in 12 days. Entertaining kids in an RV was a big concern for me going into this trip

    • Rain Cloud in a Jar - Science Experiment for Kids

I knew the thunderstorms were coming. The rain was on it’s way. Before it started, we felt the humid air outside and watched the storm roll in at the river and then did this experiment at home while the sky rumbled and pour water on us. Getting out before the rain helps gets those wiggles

    • Lyme Disease : My Story

I have Lyme Disease. The positive result came in last week and I’ve been on antibiotics since. I thought of a million ways to start writing about this and none of them felt right. It just had to be said, and now that it has, I can tell you my story.

    • Winter Family Fun at Woodloch

Winter always feels like it drags on. The first snow of the year is exciting but by February, the cold has crept under your skin and the fun seemed to dissipate. That is a sign that a break is needed. A getaway is a perfect way to refill your cup during the long winter months

    • pancake breakfast camping hack

Camping is a wonderful family experience to disconnect from the world and reconnect with each other. There are many challenges that face families that want to go camping and cooking is one of the topics that I am asked most about.

    • Get to Know your Kids One on One Hiking

Have you ever wondered how well you really know your kids? It is so important for us, as parents, to take the time to learn who they truly are. Spending one on one time with kids helps us to connect and bond and nothing has taught me more about my children than spending time in

    • skin care is self care

At one point in my life, I thought having a skin care routine was about vanity. It always seemed like a lot of money to be spending on something that is meant to help you look better. I spent 30 years of my life thinking this and never wanting to “waste” my money on skin
